It was meant to have snowed on Friday and Saturday at that height, so I was expecting a lot more.

There are often pockets of snow on the north slopes in the Cairngorms into the summer.

I was once out doing the traverse of the Black Mount in Glencoe - a long walk - on a blistering June day, and I ran out of water. On the slope at the end of the walk, as I came down to the ski centre, there was a patch of snow which was the most wonderful thing in the world - thirst quenching and cooling!

I had the same experience on Bheinn Eighe in June. I like the last picture. The quintessential Lochnagar shot!

When I come to think of it - when I went up Ben Newis about 20yrs ago in July, it had a patch of snow up there too - very good for sunburn!
