Tommy Smith, Scotland's most reknowned saxophonist, and Arild Andersen, the Norwegian bass player, are touring together, playing a series of duets. They did this last a year ago - including a truly wonderful gig in the Round Church in Bowmore as part of the Islay jazz festival. This was a highly memorable concert of true beauty and simplicity - just saxophone and bass (with a little help from echo and repeat pedals...).

I don't think I could recommend these gigs strongly enough.

They are playing in late November and early December, including Leeds, Southend, Ambleside, Stirling, Glasgow (on 5/12), Edinburgh (6/12; I've already got my tickets!), Aberdeen, Darlington and Birmingham.

Hee hee - not London...

Oooh, they're recording for the BBC, too...

Should you be remotely interested, details here and here.

Although jazz-based, I wouldn't really call it jazz - it doesn't swing. It is more impressionistic music; almost kind of new agey. But very beautiful.
