It is a sunny morning; I woke up early and went swimming before breakfast. The pool was crowded with OAPs and people ploughing the lanes before going to work.

I had breakfast in a café around the corner, reading the paper whilst nibbling a pain au raisin and drinking several cups of coffee.

All of which may explain why I felt in the mood for some loud music when I got in. I put on Massive Attack’s Mezzanine, a particularly dark and brooding album that I rarely play: but today my upbeat mood could cope with the intensity. Plus it has some really good beats on it.

So I cranked up the volume. Thus it was that I missed two calls to my phone!

It really is a great album, though. Just dark.

Great album, dark as hell. Your morning sounds ideal! I went to the gym, where I demonstrated to myself that I was in fact very tired. Then I came home and in my addled state managed to pour vitamin pills all over the kitchen floor :)

Now I'm going to the allotment to pick some blackberries and to try to wake myself up sufficiently to get some proper work done today.

Well, it was ideal. Obviously, the moment I posted it the sky clouded over and it now looks like it'll rain.

Blackberries are very good. I meant to comment to that effect on your post about the allotment, but I didn't get around to it. I am sure allotments are hard work, though.

Have fun!

Thanks :) I imagine there will be some hard work, but mostly I intend to chill out and work at my own pace. My neighbour there is of the same mind, which is good.

I'm much more motivated to go and get blackberries than I am to take the compost and recycling. All carrot and no stick, that's me.

You can hit yourself with half a carrot if you want to

Mezzanine is a cracking album. Most of the time it's my favourite 'attack record, but sometimes Protection creeps in there. Everyone seems to reckon that Blue Lines is their classic, but I just hear the seeds of what's to come and a lot of 80's hip-hop in there.

Also worth checking out is 'No Protection' - the Mad Professor dub reworking of the Protection album. In many ways it's better than the original.

PS:Does anyone else think that the theme tune to 'House' (American doctor show with Hugh Laurie in) sounds like 'Teardrop'?

Mezzanine is brilliant, but I find it hard to tak unless I am in just the right kind of mood.

I love Protection (which I heard first), and Blue Lines has some cracking tracks.

I think all three of these albums have some really brilliant, excellent tracks, but also some fillers that I can happily skip.

I recently heard the original source for Safe From Harm - a Billy Cobham jazz-rock track. Basically, all Massive Attack had done was lift the bass and drums, stick some jangly guitar on it and put the vocals over the top. I can't remember if Billy Cobham even got a credit!
