"Mr Turner".
Nov. 2nd, 2014 02:16 pmI went to see "Mr Turner" last night. I was thought it might be brilliant, but I was worried I might be disappointed.
I was right. It was brilliant and I was disappointed.
It was brilliant because the acting by the leads was generally excellent. And it was beautifully photographed, fittingly.
But I was disappointed because - well, basically I don't know why they made the film. It doesn't have a story to tell. There was no narrative flow - it seemed like very short episodes strung together with nothing to link them. Turner goes somewhere, gets his sketchbook book, goes somewhere else, people ask him how the journey was, he grunts. He grunts a lot. (Timothy Spall as Turner raises inarticulateness to an art form.)
So: brilliant. And disappointing.
