I have just watched the first episode of the new series of Dragons' Den on BBC2.

If you haven't seen it, this is a kind of reality show where people with new business ideas pitch to get investment from some rather vicious equity investors - the dragons of the title.

There I was, being entertained by these wacky and wonderful ideas as the dragons tore into the inventors and their under-developed business plans, when onto the screen walks an ex-girlfriend.

I haven't seen this woman for probably twenty five years...

It was very odd, watching this woman with whom I - um... - got my teenage kicks, trying to sell her idea to the dragons, and by extension, the nation's tv watchers.

(And if you saw the show, she was the brunette selling kids' books rather than the blonde selling loo seat covers!)

And my wife says she looked far older than me. That will be my boyish good looks, then.

Yup, very weird.

She left with a flea in her ear - although I was too busy telling my wife about my past love life to actually hear why they didn't like her idea!

Heee! The loo seat woman was mental! Was it the coffee house short story books woman? If so, the reason she didn't get an investment was because she'd sold one book every three days on average in the pilot scheme!

There's an ad on TV at the moment (can't remember what it's for, but it's lots of shots of people dancing) and one of the women in it looks an awful lot like someone I used to know. I really must record it and pause her bit some time....

she got very short shrift. Trying to remember what she looked like: seem to remember tidy, quite posh, a bit matronly perhaps?

It wasn't what she looked like when she was seventeen, believe me!
