A conversation the other night:
Me (being ironic): I bet you're really looking forward to the next four weeks, aren't you?
My wife: At least I don't have to pretend any more!
Amazingly, for the first time in ages, there isn't a football match on her birthday. Well, it is probably only since last year - but whenever the World Cup or European Cup are on, there is always a match on her birthday. Somehow, this year, that night is free.
There was an entertaining bit in the Indy about being a Scot in England during the World Cup - click on the link and search for Colgan (the writer). That is, if you are remotely interested!
Actually, to save you the bother, the bit I liked was:

Four years ago the Tartan Army held a vote in its 86-strong executive committee (the mind boggles at what the Tartan Army's 86-strong executive committee is for. What do they do? Are there minutes? Have I been confused all these years and it's actually a real army?) to see if they would support England in its World Cup bid.
"We had three recounts," its chief executive said at the time. "But it still came out the same: 86-0. Against."
