In case any of you were curious as to the identity of the haunting vocal of "Autumn Leaves" I heard, BBC Jazz Line-Up have emailed back to say it was Anita Wardell. A version of the song appears on her latest album. As a rule, I don't really like jazz singers, but I was so taken with the song I may go and buy the album!
ETA - OK, now Amazon's matching software has excelled itself: looking at Anita Wardell's latest album, it is suggesting I might like to "buy Anita lingerie"!
ETA 2 - if anyone in London is remotely interested, Anita Wardell is playing at the Octave in Endell St, Covent Garden on November 10 (part of London Jazz Festival), and at QEH on the South Bank on December 15, 5.30pm - this last one is free.
