Easter Indulgence
Apr. 17th, 2006 06:25 pmEaster Sunday started with a stunningly clear, bright sky. I woke early, and I decided to go for a cycle ride before breakfast. I rode maybe an eight mile circuit, part of the way I cycle to work (starting my summer schedule next week – I am very much a fair weather cyclist!), part on other cycle paths – along discarded rail lines, through disused stations (the platforms still intact), cutting through the city along tree-lined tracks. It was such fun, I did the same today (though for a new perspective, I did it in reverse).
Once home, I snacked on some Green & Black’s praline mini-eggs before I had a long luxurious bath, and breakfast.
My wife also gave our cats an Easter egg, made of yoghurt and catnip. They seemed to like it. Later, they were both completely manic, their calls sounding different and their behaviour strange. It looked a bit like they were on drugs or something. Perhaps catnip is not such a good idea.
I cooked roast leg of lamb for dinner: it was delicious – lots of rosemary and garlic, roast potatoes (scrummy), and it was perfectly cooked (which was a bit of a miracle: Nigel Slater’s book said 15 minutes per pound, Delia Smith said 30 minutes per pound, so I compromised round about 20 or so minutes per pound, and it came out just right. Slater must like very red meat). We had a good bottle of claret with the meat, and then some Australian noble Riesling with a small bit of criffel cheese. Lovely.
