Driving back south, we stopped to walk to Dunstanburgh. The sky was heavy. As we left, the sun was setting, the tall clouds catching fire and the ruins dyed deep orange. It was spectacularly glorious.
I had always sped past before - going north or south, but never stopping.
I am very glad I did: I now love it too (though it does have bitter-sweet memories).
Next, I want to get off the train in Durham - your university? It always looks interesting from the train, but I have never visited. I must put that right.
Durham is worth a visit, if only for the cathedral thoughthere is a fair bit more to see. The cathedral is perhaps my favourite of all the English cathedrals.
