I have an admission to make. The very first single that I bought wasn’t an uber-cool record – say, the Velvet Underground or the Rolling Stones or the MC5 or something like that. It was Rolf Harris’ “Two Little Boys”.

I was nine at the time, and I asked my mother to buy it for me.

I only point this out because I have just learnt from the radio that Harris’ has rerecorded it for Armistice Day.

It still makes me sad!

(My first LP wasn’t very cool, either: ELP’s “Trilogy”, in 1973.)

My first single was Poison by Alice Cooper.

Two Little Boys always makes me cry. I know I am not alone in this, because I saw Rolf at Glasto in 97 and there was a huge hairy biker next to me bawling his eyes out. It was a special moment.

They actually interviewed Harris just now: he said that he'd be at Glastonbury next year, too.

Although Alice Cooper is a lot cooler than Rolf Harris! "School's Out" would have been neat - but that might have been a little before you're time...

Before I was born, sadly. I do own the album in fold-out school desk vinyl, though.

First record I ever bought was the Police's 'Regatta de Blanc' - still one of my favourite records ever. (This back when sting could still write good songs, had to believe given the drivel he's been putting out since the late 80s)
The 2nd record i bought was a Rod Stewart single called 'Young Turks' but I see no reason to ever mention that again :)

It wasn't bought, but I had a green cassette with Regatta de Blanc on one side and Blondie's Parallel Lines on the other. I was nine and I loved it.

I saw Blondie play their first gigs in London - supporting Television at Hammersmith Odeon (1977, I think) - and later at the Roundhouse (1978, I guess).

*smug*
