rhythmaning: (sunset)

Whilst I was removing kitten pictures from my phone, I realised there were a couple of sunsets from last October sitting on the phone as well; I rather liked them, so here they are.

Initial designs used Kitten/Toast in vacuum over carpet (KTIVOC) powered sources. In a frictionless environment the spin is such that crumbs and hairs at the edge would fall apart and be flung out at near lightspeed. However the particles thrown off could never be properly controlled. The crumb-sourced particles were fine, of course. A few filters and various magnetic fields would separate out the particles of interest. The kitten-hair sourced particles (KSP) were quite another matter. Bose-Einstein condensates have nothing on KSPs when it comes to escaping containment. Test equipment would be full of stray KSPs before they were even turned on (and you can be sure the colour never matched the equipment).

While you can simply use a digital camera with a suitably small memory card and a kitten to tear holes in the universe, that isn't actually a design goal of the LHC. I did hear that something the reverse is true. They have emergency universe stabilisation centres at points all around the LHC and control centres. Simply smash the safety glass to remove the kitten and camera. Stroke the kitten while taking pictures and the universe is obviously fine. Any holes accidentally torn in the universe thus didn't happen so they repair themselves.
