Slip Sliding Away

More ice: though this was in the Winter Olympics. On Sunday I watched the ice skating; not something I would normally do, but it was quite fun.
There was a fair amount of falling, including the Canadian pair – this was a really painful fall, the woman losing her grip as she clung on, and falling maybe four feet onto the ice, clearly hurting her hip – she had to be helped off. This was replayed several times, somewhat unfairly – they had been superb up until then, their last movement in their piece. I thought they were the most fluid and subtle of the skaters I saw (though it must be said, I know fuck all about ice skating).
The other falls were more entertaining – skaters who just weren’t up to it – you could see the legs faltering a few seconds before they fell; and the looks on their partners’ faces! Joyous tv.
But the real accidents were what they were wearing: I think they must have got points for the worst outfits, because some of them were truly diabolic. All that ice – and all that bare flesh! (Or seemingly bare flesh – perhaps they were wearing body-stockings or something.) Most of the dancers had truly appalling outfits. The exception, again, was the Canadian couple – a rather muted, pale outfit that went rather well.
I hope they won.

Worst fall I've seen: Chinese girl, who effectively did the splits on ice during a bad landing and landed very painfully on her knee. Incredibly, after a couple of minutes getting herself back together, she finished her routine.
