Another Whitehall Farce
Nov. 21st, 2007 03:05 pmThere has been an awful lot written about the latest tragi-comedy to befall Gordon and Alistair. Coming so soon after the Northern Rock debacle, too!
Thing is, every time I hear about the loss of confidential data 25 million people - and that is a mighty large number - it just makes me laugh. Perhaps it is just the scale of the thing - as
topicaltim has pointed out, before this wonderful digital age it wouldn't have been possible to lose that much data without losing a good few buildings full of filing cabinets; now it all fits onto one shiny little disc.
Perhaps it is because I have no children, so I am not one of the people worried about details of my bank account being auctioned on eBay-for-fraudsters.
Perhaps it is the sound of so many politicians apologising without sounding sorry at all; or the sound of votes being lost.
Perhaps it is the stupidity of the whole situation.
But it still makes me smile.
