This was all over BBC Scotland a few weeks ago, but I didn't get around to posting it...

Here's the story about the video on the BBC Scotland website.

Gosh.

Um.

Context?

And is it wrong that my reaction to the last one was "You're very good and soooooo very marvelously gay" ?

The BBC article explains that there was a NATO exercise, and the weather meant much of it was cancelled - they were bored sitting around, and decided to do something.

And as a straight white male who has in his time danced to YMCA (although not for twenty years or so...) how can you suggest that members of the RAF might be anything less than 110% straight? ;)

Oh, it wasn't the YMCA bit. Anyone could have felt the urge to disco with extra large pointy hands and some spare time. It was the last guy. I think it may have been something about the way he A: could really dance, B: didn't mind doing so all alone and hamming it for the camera, C: was really built, and D: had an enormous mustache that led me to make that deplorable generalization. Also, there's a particular kind of wiry physique combined with good-natured, beaky face that seems to be oddly common among gay men.

At least I didn't - though I was tempted to - employ my favorite description, cadged from Good Omens, i.e., "gayer than a tree full of monkeys on nitrous oxide."

I might have, except for the lurking fear that some people might not be able to detect the benign affection with which I said it.

The character in the last bit was based on advertising for 118 118 (http://www.118.com/home/) - really, REALLY irritating tv ads.

Hee - thanks for this. Raised a big smile, especially the Run-DMC, for some reason :)

I rather liked the Michael Jackson bits, myself!
