England v Australia. Whilst my heart hoped England might win, I was overruled by my head, which based on recent performances predicted a clear Australia.

France v New Zealand. My heart didn't care about either of them, but my head was clearly on the side of New Zealand, who I thought would power through the French.

My head clearly isn't doing too well at this game. It is a good thing I am not a gambler.

Now, Scotland v Argentina. My head say Argentina, but my heart is for Scotland, of course.

So could we be looking at a Scotland v England final...?

That would involve Scotland beating Argentina and, probably, South Africa. Stranger things have happened but not very often.

Of course, I'd be supporting Scotland - if only because the EBC BBC commentators would be gloating over an English win for a week before the game even started.

The spring before I moved to Edinburgh, I remember sitting with Gerry, Jerry and Andy watching Scotland play England in what was then the Five Nations - we werewatching on tv, of course (although I think Jerry makes it to Twickenham sometimes). I was supporting Scotland, because everyone else was supporting England, and they assumed England would walk it. And, of course, I was about to relocate.

Scotland won. And then they won me, too.
