I was sitting on the bus to work listening to Radio 3 on my walkman when the 8.30 am news headlines came. There is nothing strange about this; it happens every day (although, being Radio 3 sometimes a little early, sometimes a little late).

What was strange was that it was yesterday's news.

I would sware that they were the same headlines as yesterday:
  • report published in Strasburg say EU governments probably knew about CIA "rendition" flights
  • Gordon Brown supports Tony Blair's changes to the education policy
  • Seventeen women with breast cancer were misdiagnosed

and so on.

It could be some kind of deja vu; or maybe it is just that by 8.30 I have heard the news so often that it just seems like yesterday's news (although that didn't happen yesterday).

Or maybe I am trapped in some kind of Groundhog Day reliving of my past.

So let's see what happens yesterday, then...

Since when has R3 lived in real time? I love the Dead Ringers line:

"You're listening to Radio Three.............. Quiet, isn't it?"

I never know when I'm listening to R3 if it's the real thing, or if I've accidentally got dead ringers!

Hmm - I would have settled for last year's yesterday - that was a particularly good day, if I remember correctly!

Could you have seen these headlines on the net yesterday night and then heard them again this morning?

Definitely not off the 'net. And I've just checked on BBC news - they are all yesterday's stories.

Unless the BBC has a conspiracy to confuse me...

*g*

I was going to mention that maybe the newsreader just had the wrong sheet handed to him/her but that is too prosaic an explanation...

Alternatively, he may be living in a Philip K. Dick novel...

I am sure you are right; it was just that no one noticed! I was listening out for an apology or something... Perhaps they think that no one actually listens to the news on Radio 3!
