Stumbling and Mumbling has an interesting post on the role schools play as an instrument of the state, and in particular reinforcing individuals' place in capitalist societies.

I have always understood that this was one of the principal reasons for introducing state education in the first place.

Hah! So you're the other reader of that feed. There should be many many more, but, well, no accounting for taste.

I think he's right, overall, one thing I've liked about my most recent and now starting again job is that strict rota timing is something that really doesn't matter; get the job done, do what needs to be done, worry about the rest later.

Ah yeah, I remember now; I plug it regularly, because everyone should have a good understanding of economics, but either everyone else uses feedreaders or they're ignoring me. I suspect a mixture of two.
