There was something else that I meant to tell you about sitting in Manchester Piccadilly station, waiting for the train.
I have four names; two of them – one of my middle names and my surname – are also the names of towns in Greater Manchester – one to the north of Manchester, the other to the east. (Whilst it might be interesting to speculate that my family originates from the north west, I don’t think that is the case; my paternal great great grandparents came from the west Midlands.)
There is a therefore a train station that shares my surname. And whilst I was sitting drinking coffee, eating croissants, and reading the paper, I kept hearing the station announcer calling my name. It was quite strange. It was like he was paging me.
I thought I should get on the train and find myself.
