One of the things I did at the LibDem Conference was go and talk to the people on the Scottish LibDem stand.

"Is there anything I can do to help apart from campaigning? I hate campaigning!"

"Well..." they said...

And so it was that I found myself in the LibDems Scottish HQ stuffing leaflets into envelopes for three hours last Thursday.

Well, I did ask. And at least it wasn't campaigning!

Yeah, so far as I can tell, what most members of any political party can do is "Get the word out"

It's been one of my pet hates for ages, and it's been highlighted in so many internal reviews. When I moved up here the website had been a default Wordpress install saying "hello world" for at least a year previously, I was told "we didn't have anyone able to do it with the time". Two of the parties top national bloggers lived locally, but they'd given up on trying to volunteer after beeing given another pile of leaflets and nothing else.

It's still a problem, local cllrs don't pass on volunteers to the right people, but it's better than it was, the member with an almost professional level video setup is now invited to the debates to record them, etc and the website's run by someone that knows what they're doing.

But there're still massive shortages, I bet most local parties would love to have a really good photographer available to them for pulbicity shots and similar, but, y'know, it won't get passed to the right people unless you badger, etc.

Please don't get me wrong - I was quite happy to stuff envelopes, and I understand it needs doing!

I have also done some data entry previously.

And they now know I'll be happy to turn up and do stuff!
