Rule #2.

I have realised I have a second rule.

Somewhat cat-related, too, though not wholly feline.

It is that the front door must be locked with the mortice lock. That's because the Yale lock doesn't catch properly, and if it is windy (which, up here, it often is), the door can blow open. Particularly if the door to the stair is opened.

Of course, it means that people are locked in as well as locked out.

[Edit: one - no, two - major advantages of this: it is impossible to forget your keys; and it is impossible to get locked out!

As I lock doors on auto-pilot so can never remember whether I have actually locked the or not (I often end up getting halfway down my street and then coming back to double check) I was really worried one day when I stayed that I might not have locked your door as I just couldn't remember doing it.

I was very relieved when you said I had.
