I went to an evening on synaesthesia tonight, part of the Edinburgh Science Festival. It was really fascinating, and somewhat bizarre. Hearing people describe sounds as colours, tastes as sounds and do on - well, it sounded like living one's life inside an acid trip!

One of the presenters. Samantha Moore, shows a film she made, in which, working with synaesthetes, she tries to interpret the colours and shapes that people experience when they heard sounds, "An Eyeful of Sound".

Here is a clip. The full film was remarkable, and very beautiful. I loved it.

That does, indeed, sound like living inside an acid trip.

I assume that it's not as overwhelming for most people though!
