The Scottish Parliament: on the move

The Scottish Parliament has been displaced. A loose roof-beam threatened to hit the Conservative benches in the chamber below, and the building in Holyrood was closed for safety concerns. (If it hadn’t been reported on the BBC, I doubt many people would have noticed, but that is another story.)

For the last week, they have had to hold debates in the Hub, at the other end of the Royal Mile. This is a beautiful building; usually an arts venue – I have been to some brilliant jazz concerts there during the Edinburgh Jazz Festival – and it is also famous for hosting my wife’s and my wedding reception.

Before it was transformed into the Hub a few years ago, it had lain empty for many years. In the early eighties it was used as a fringe venue – some friends were part of a theatre company called, I think, Surfing Theatre who used it in 1981 for a venue for fringe comedy and farce.

And now it is host to the Scottish Parliament.

I thought the SNP might have had something to do with it myself.

I can just see the Scottish Socialists picking their noses and fiddling with the bolts...
