I've been watching BBC's Scotland 2014 and Newsnight, trying to work out what happened in tonight's televised debate on independence between Alex Salmond and Alistair Darling.

It appears that there was no clear winner - which, given Salmond's political savvy, means that he was the clear loser.

No clear answers on either side, either.

In six weeks time, it will all be over, and we'll know one way or another. I think the last weeks of campaigning could be quite damaging - by definition, things are getting more partisan (Yes! No!).

The are lots of discussions and ideas going on about how to unite people after the referendum, whatever the outcome. Ways to heal open wounds are too be welcomed, I think.

I went to see the Scottish National Theatre and National Theatre (of Great Britain) co production of a new play, James l, tonight.

Interesting play covering big themes - what does it mean to be a nation? What must leaders do? Who should you trust and how should you act?

This was a preview - so, the premiere, I suppose. I loved the staging and the production, and thought the acting was good. The play itself felt a bit overlong - it sagged in the middle of the second half, before a rousing final act.

Most of all, it has got me interested in the history, which I shall have to read before I see the sequels, James ll and James lll, on Thursday and Saturday respectively.

(I'm very glad I'm not seeing all three plays in one day. I think that would be quite a hard day...)
