Talisker Update Update Update
Jul. 24th, 2012 05:40 pmWelcome back to Talisker's blog...
coughingbear asked for - nay, demanded - a further update on the state of Talisker. It is mixed. Not Talisker - he is in remarkably rude health - but...

- food
Mixed progress here. Sometimes he goes to get the food when the automatic feeder clicks open, sometimes he wakes me to demand food and won't go to it until I get up and show it to him.
It is a curious thing: Talisker is very disciplined about food. He won't eat my food - in the 14 months I have been looking after him, he hasn't once tried to take food whilst I am cooking, and only twice has he tried to take food off my plate. He doesn't lick dirty plates (usually; once or twice he has licked some pans).
When I am putting his food out, he will get very excited and jump onto the counter; but if I leave the catfood bag open and accessible, he won't make any attempt to get at or eat the catfood - even if he is miaowing at me to feed him.
(It is clear that there are two kinds of cats: those that eat sensibly and those stop when they are full, and those that stuff their faces at every opportunity: several people have told me how they just pile up food for the cats and leave them to it, and their cats will just eat what they want and come back later for a top up, whilst others describe how their cats gobble down anything they can at any time. Curious.) - He is also being very cute. (See below...)
- Scratching
Talisker has quickly become very fond of two wicker armchairs I got from Ikea. They have become his favourite place to sharpen his claws. He is rapidly demolishing them, so this morning I went to the petshop to look at cat-scratchpads. I had to stop myself from buying an excellent piece of "cat furniture" which whilst looking like it would really do what I wanted actually cost more than the two chairs.
I might just get some chairs for Talisker to ruin...
