Thank you for that...hope you don't mind if I refer to it myself! It's occurred to me quite often lately that I own and listen to a lot of music, but barely a single recording that could be decribed as jazz (not even the ones that everyone else apparently has - the shame). And yet I have this nagging feeling that I'm not sure if I like jazz but I definitely like the idea of jazz. Perhaps this is another of those things about getting old growing up,and this is just the sort of appreciation I was looking for.
Browsing the interweb for various peoples' top 20 or top 40 or top 100 left me thinking that it might not be original or challenging, but I couldn't go wrong by starting with Kind Of Blue, possibly followed by A Love Supreme which you seem to endorse as the obvious jazz newbie thing to do. It was the next step that was looking less obvious...
