Things To Do In Denver When You're Dead London

Because obviously, everyone in London doesn't have enough things to do. And needs advice from someone who doesn't live there.

But still. I read last weekend that Slava's SnowShow is coming to London next week.

We went to see this in Edinburgh a few years ago. It was one of the best pieces of theatre I have seen. It was beautiful and wonderful. It was so good that the audience stayed in the theatre for forty five minutes after the show had finished, playing with child-like glee. According to the blurb, Simon Callow said "This is the single most beautiful thing I have ever seen in a theatre in my life."

The show is in Milton Keynes this weekend, and then in Wimbledon next week. And I see it is in Glasgow sometime next month...

Also, those of you that frequent the SMWS may be aware of this already, but Jamie Primrose, one of my neighbours and a very good (and prolific) painter, has an exhibition at the SMWS rooms in Greville St in November. There are a couple of private views if you want to grab a glass of wine whilst looking at the paintings - the SMWS events list has details.

*sigh* Why do people never link to things happening in Ireland? That looks so cool! (Humour me, I'm having a punny week) Although, worryingly, I parsed Simon Callow as Simon Cowell and got seriously concerned about your mental state for a minute...

And it'll please you to hear that I now have Bitter Sweet Symphony stuck in my head. Thanks.

Outed, I say.

Shome mishtake, shurely?

[identity profile] unblinkered.livejournal.com 2006-09-29 12:56 pm (UTC)(link)
You realise that this is entirely your fault, right?

[identity profile] itchyfidget.livejournal.com 2006-09-29 12:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Nuh uh.

[identity profile] unblinkered.livejournal.com 2006-09-29 01:02 pm (UTC)(link)

Ah - but it is the Whisky Society! Can't see them stretching to drams, though.

Glad to have been able to find something to occupy your mind!

[identity profile] itchyfidget.livejournal.com 2006-09-29 01:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Good grief, what else are they good for? ;)

[identity profile] rhythmaning.livejournal.com 2006-09-29 01:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Another ah - but - it is the artists who fund the private view. So my guess is it will be wine!

[identity profile] itchyfidget.livejournal.com 2006-09-29 01:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, of course. What a shame! ;)

In edinburgh, open fires, huge members room and a nifty members only restaurant, in London something resembling a BA Lounge, but with great steak sandwiches from the Bleeding Heart below.

"I was working on a steak the other day
When I saw Lonnie at the Whistlestop Cafe
Dressed in black, knocking back a shot of rye,
Thinkin' bout things to in Denver when you die"

Just off to listen to that on the iPod, thanks.

Well, you're not selling me on the steak sandwiches, but the rest sounds good :)

Let me know if you're ever in Edinburgh - I have a network of sympathetic members. Some of them are housebroken, too.

[identity profile] itchyfidget.livejournal.com 2006-09-29 03:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I will be - got family there :)

And in the other Edinburgh - ok, in Leith - they do really good Sunday roasts. Excellent food, very good value. Although the afternoon does seem to slip by with the whiskies.

We could have gone! It was the backstop if UrbanAngel had been full.

Next time, maybe.

Happy to help!

[identity profile] itchyfidget.livejournal.com 2006-09-29 03:58 pm (UTC)(link)
You had a backup plan! *is impressed*

[identity profile] f4f3.livejournal.com 2006-09-29 04:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Didn't know that - last time I was there you could only get soup and sandwich lunches. Sounds like a splendid idea.

I noticed that the movie of the same title was on TV this week - a little gem, I've always thought.

[identity profile] rhythmaning.livejournal.com 2006-09-29 05:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, it is just around the corner...

[identity profile] rhythmaning.livejournal.com 2006-09-29 05:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I couldn't recommend the Sunday lunch more - it was very, very good. It is going to become a regular event for us, I think!

[identity profile] rhythmaning.livejournal.com 2006-09-29 05:05 pm (UTC)(link)
It is a very good movie. But then I like Christopher Walken.

I liked the assasin.
