I've just noticed that there is a tv programme about Midnight's Children - a repeat from 1981. It is "Arena: A Takk Story: How Salman Rushdie pickled all India", scheduled on BBC4 at 9.15pm BST - but you would be able to watch it on BBC iplayer for the next week.
